Children learn best when they build something themselves. We have them actively hear, say, write, read, and explain what they log in their book. The front pages have two columns for spelling words with room at the bottom of the page for the best original sentence of the week. Reference Pages are formatted as an appendix in the back of the book. A John Hancock signature chart is included for charting improvement in penmanship. Students create a new log every school year. Principles overlap from year to year. As they progress through the Wise List, they apply the same rules to a growing base vocabulary. Each year's log is tailored to the spelling level covered that year. The teacher follows the instructions in Wise Guide and SWR to build a sample of what she will be teaching. Creating the teacher log is a key part of teacher prep.
